We are calling for business leaders from the Ryedale area who are passionate about making a difference to the region to apply to join our main board.
The board helps set the strategic direction of the investment agenda across York and North Yorkshire by shaping future priorities, developing partnerships and securing investment from both public and private sectors.
One of Ryedale’s businesses that has been helped by the LEP is Ryedale Plasterers Ltd, a small, family business specialising in the restoration of original plaster features. When the business was faced with a serious threat through a shortage of skills in the local area, the LEP helped the business in a variety of different ways including helping them to secure grant funding and skills training.
Catherine Windross, Managing Director, said: “I’m extremely grateful for the support my business received from the LEP - without their support I would have really struggled to find and train the staff we vitally needed.
As we enter a period of unprecedented uncertainty, small businesses across the region are going to need support like this more than ever and I encourage leaders from all walks of life to embrace this opportunity to make a real difference to their region. Personally, as a female managing director in a predominantly male industry, I would particularly encourage female business leaders to get involved as they will undoubtedly bring a new perspective and new skills to the board. Men and women view things very differently and this fosters healthy debate and discussion resulting in well-balanced decisions.”
The current Chair of the Board is David. A. Kerfoot MBE DL.
He said: “Ryedale Plasterers are just one example of how the LEP board can help businesses in this region.
“We have an unprecedented need for strong leadership at the moment and I invite leaders from our region who live and breathe the world of business to embrace this opportunity to help us build a better Yorkshire for the future.
At Y&NY LEP, partnership and co-operation is at the heart of everything we do, therefore we pride ourselves in engaging and working with a broad range of businesses and organisations.
We encourage people from all walks of life, and all industries, to apply, even if they don’t have any prior Board experience. It’s very collaborative and is a great place for networking and personal development whilst giving back to the local area at the same time.”
A minimum commitment of six days a year is required. The closing date for applications to join the Board is Sunday 24 May. Application packs are available at: www.businessinspiredgrowth.com/news/board-recruitment/
